Email Your Councillor

Councillors are on the frontline of local government and see first-hand the pressures created by an outdated and increasingly unfair Council Tax system.

By contacting your councillors, you can help build support for reform within local government and the Labour Party.

We are asking Labour councillors to support the campaign, help build support within their local Labour Parties and encourage parliamentary action on Council Tax reform.

Subject: Please support the Labour Campaign for Council Tax Reform

Dear Councillor [Name],

As a Labour Party member and resident of [Council Area], I am writing to ask you to support the Labour Campaign for Council Tax Reform.

[Full Address]

Council Tax is an outdated and increasingly unfair system. Based on property valuations from 1991, it no longer reflects modern property values, regional inequalities or the principle that people should contribute according to their means.

Labour councils are being asked to deliver vital local services while relying on a system of local taxation that is becoming increasingly difficult to defend. Residents are paying more while councils continue to face significant financial pressures.

Labour has always stood for fairness and social justice. Reforming Council Tax would help create a fairer and more sustainable system of local government finance while ensuring that local taxation better reflects modern property values and ability to pay.

I therefore urge you to support the Labour Campaign for Council Tax Reform and to help build support for change within local government and the Labour Party.

Specifically, I ask that you:

• Join and support the Labour Campaign for Council Tax Reform.

• Help lead work within our CLP to build support for Council Tax reform.

• Support motions within the Labour Party committing us to Council Tax reform and a fairer system of local government finance.

• Encourage local Labour MPs to join the APPG on Council Tax Reform, chaired by Jonathan Brash MP.

• Raise the issue through Labour Local Government, the Local Government Association and other relevant forums.

• Meet with campaign representatives to discuss proposals for reform.

More information can be found at www.lc4ctr.org and the campaign can be contacted directly at email@LC4CTR.com.

I would be grateful to hear your views on Council Tax reform and whether you are willing to support the campaign.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

In solidarity,

[Name]
